Sex Criminals
by Matt Fraction & Chip Zdarsky
Sex Criminals, I think, has changed my comic reading experience. Even with the delays that have plagued this book, there's nothing I genuinely enjoyed more. It's such a rich world inhabited by wonderful characters. It's well written, it's hilarious, and what's most important, everything about this world feels real.
What has made me fall in love with Sex Criminals are the characters and their relationships, mainly Jon and Suzie's. They're not a perfect couple. They also don't fall into any cliches that you see in other forms of entertainment. They fight, they make up, they struggle; not everything is roses. Everything about how Fraction decides to write these two, and build up the world around them, is perfect.
In the second arc, we are taken to a place that is a lot darker than where the first arc did. The second arc deals with Jon's mental issues, and how that also affects everything else in his life, and, again, it's never felt more real. There is always something to make you laugh, however, and that's thanks to both Fraction and Zdarsky's genius comedic timing.
Sex Criminals is an amazing series. Really, just go out and read it. You're really just doing yourself a favor with this one.
